We are delighted to announce the release of the first cookbook by our fabulous colleague, baker, and executive editor, Kim Laidlaw. Home Baked Comfort is a labor of love that harkens back to her childhood, where Kim enjoyed helping her mom bake even before she knew how to read.
The book is beautifully photographed by Eric Wolfinger, a passionate baker himself, and features chapters covering breakfast; breads; cookies & bars; cakes & cupcakes; pies & tarts; and custards & soufflés. Along the way, Kim offers insider tips for ensuring baking success and relates dozens of personal stories that bring her baked goods to life. Throughout the writing process, Kim brought in scores of sweet treats to the office that were—literally—devoured in seconds by anyone who came near. Staff favorites included Sour Cherry “Toaster” Tarts; Lemon-Blueberry Drizzle Bread; Baked’s Mississippi Mud Pie; and Pear-Custard Tart. Trust us. These recipes are good!
In addition to family favorites and modern takes on classics, Kim worked with bakers and bloggers across the country who offered recipes for their signature treats to include in the book. You’ll find specialities from Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery in Boston; Angie Dudley of Bakerella fame; Elisabeth Prueitt and Chad Robertson of Tartine in San Francisco (their decadent morning buns are an office favorite); Deb Perelman from the delightful blog, Smitten Kitchen; and Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito of Baked bakery in Brooklyn, to name just a few.
Recently, Kim and her husband welcomed a new daughter into the world, who will no doubt be stirring the biscuit dough alongside her mom as soon as she can stand. Congratulations, Kim, on two amazing achievements!
